Surviving and Thriving Through Health Reform
Since the enactment of the health reform law, colleagues, friends and neighbors continue to ask me how Optima Health is dealing with this changing time. I respond by saying that we are adjusting our strategies to comply and succeed in this new era of healthcare. Change is good and always an opportunity.
Despite the additional workload that health reform has created, our staff, board, employers, members, providers and you, our brokers, have rallied together to bring better clarity to the new regulation, and help to set a course for implementation. I feel privileged to work for an organization that continues to put our members at the forefront of our mission, to improve health every day!
In reviewing our successes for the year, I am pleased to report that our Consumer Directed Health Plans continue to grow along with our Medicare and Individual Health Plans. We have had to make some product adjustments to enable us to become stronger, but in the end, these changes have allowed us to retain and grow our memberships in these product lines.
In an effort to continue with our goal to broaden our wellness suite, this Fall we introduced a new health coaching component to our suite of health and wellness programs. We have partnered with a vendor that has created exciting and effective tools to engage and encourage members to improve their health. At this time, the program is only available to fully insured commercial businesses, but in 2011 we anticipate expanding the program across all commercial plans.
Additionally, this year our Web site began its migration to a new platform in an effort to improve the usability and functionality for all our audiences. We will see the completion of this project by the end of 2011. We continue to encourage your feedback about our site and ways that we can improve it.
As you can see, we have made many strides this year and look forward to the future. We appreciate and thank you for your continued support of Optima Health, as you are a vital part of our organization.
With this year coming to an end, I wish you Happy Holidays and a great New Year!
Sincerely,

John E. DeGruttola
